Faced with submarine and air attacks by Japanese forces, the United States constructed 59 disguised radar and anti-aircraft positions. Japan followed up their Pearl Harbor attack by bombing forests in Oregon and California, hoping to divert men, equipment and fuel from the war by igniting fires in our forests.

The defensive implacements were constructed to appear as innocent farm buildings, but housed forty-plus soldiers, diesel generators, radar equipment ansd 50-calibre machine guns.

Only the "Farm that Wasn't" on the FunBus Tour remains today.
