Lower Klamath Salmon & Steelies
Salmon fishing remains excellent and the outlook bodes for more great fishing ahead. On Thursday 9-8 Kenny Armstrong and Wally Johnson both called in with early limits. Wally had 8 fish in the box on their first six passes through Starwein this morning and that was despite losing six others and that was just their first hour. he ended the day with limits of adults and jacks or 9 salmon to 14 pounds. Kenny Armstrong just a couple of holes above at Brooks was limited by 9AM with nine fish to 15 pounds. Both were boondoggling roe which is about the easiest technique to a newbie to master. The fish are still mostly 6 to 10 pounders but there are a few more fish in the teens and 20 pound class showing every week.
We are blessed to have this incredible fishery in California. This scenic river just a six hour drive from San Francisco has a king run that rivals any in Alaska or BC. If you have never fished the Klamath this is the year to check it out. Over the next two weeks we will see the peak of the run but with lots of salmon reported (this past weekend) off Eureka we could likely see great action into October..

Hello Everyone,
Wow what a week!! Lots of fish. It was one of the best Labor Day weekends in
quite a few years. Folks fishing below the bridge at the mouth did okay, but we
were up to our elbows in fish from anglers fishing above the Hwy 101 bridge.
Lots of jacks or close to it. With the close of the Commercial net season, more
adult fish were picked up later in the week. I don't think its dropped off yet.
Usually the two weeks following Labor Day weekend are the best fishing...
